Km Alexander O'hara’s Expertise As the National Director for Catechetics for the Irish Catholic Bishops' Conference, I work with the Council for Catechetics and other Episcopal Commissions to develop policies, initiatives, and resources for Catholic religious education and faith formation in Ireland. I am a member of the Équipe Européenne de Catéchèse (European Catechetical Team). I am a graduate of the University of St Andrews and Oxford University, with over 10 years of experience in higher education. I am passionate about fostering dialogue, collaboration, and innovation in the field of catechetics, especially as the Church in Ireland embarks on its synodal pathway. I was a Fulbright and Visiting Scholar at Harvard University, a Research Fellow at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Vienna, the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, and Trinity College Dublin, and a recipient of multiple grants and awards for my academic research and publications. I am a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. My publications include Jonas of Bobbio and the Legacy of Columbanus: Sanctity and Community in the Seventh Century (Oxford University Press, 2018), Columbanus and the Peoples of Post-Roman Europe (Oxford University Press, 2018), Jonas of Bobbio: Life of Columbanus, Life of John, and Life of Vedast (Liverpool University Press, 2017), and St Sunniva: Irish Queen, Norwegian Patron Saint (Bergen, 2021). My current book project concerns the development of Irish ethnic identity and the changing perception of Ireland and the Irish from Antiquity to the English Conquest of Ireland.
